The rate of students’ exposure to sporadic criminal attacks on the campus of Tikrom M/A Junior High School in the Ejisu municipality may witness an exponential rise if immediate assistance is not offered to salvage the situation, authorities have indicated.
Incidents of teachers being robbed at knife and gun points by armed men, ransacking of school properties and belongings of the school by thieves from the outskirts of the school has been a major worry which is adversely affecting students, teachers and academic activities.
The Headmistress for the school Mr Agyemang Yeboah disclosed in an interview with Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame that academic affairs per the status quo is punctuated with fear and panic among teachers during night hours when the school is closed and was quick to disclose that the school currently lack the required financial strength to make possible the construction of a concrete wall that will bar criminals from invading their premises and safeguard their properties from night robbers.
Thieves and armed robbers he emphasized, severally break into classrooms and staff common room took away computers and other valuable items belonging to the school and that all pleas made to the police and stakeholders to address the situation has not yielded the needed response.
Tikrom M/A JHS since its establishment over 75 years holding a track record as one of the best school in the Ashanti region with a current population of 400 students he disclosed is totally out of touch with security due to the absence of a fence wall.
The assembly member of the area Hon Stella Oduro Boateng is appealing to the assembly and the central government to come to their aid.
